This movement to protect the world’s ocean is what the United Nations Patron of the Oceans has long been working towards – including his 1 km swim in Petermann Island in Antarctica in 0°C water in 18 minutes, his 1.6 km swim across Whaler’s Bay in Deception Island in the South Shetland islands in 30 minutes 30 seconds, his 1.25 km swim in Nigards Glacier Lake, Norway in 0°C water, his 1 km swim across the North Pole in -1.7°C water in 18 minutes 50 seconds, his 1 km high-altitude swim in Lake Pumori on Mount Everest in 22 minutes 51 seconds at 5,200m altitude, his Seven Swims In The Seven Seas For 1 Reason, the Five Swims in Antarctica for 1 Reason, and his latest 49-day 560 km stage swim along the English Channel.
The Long Swim helped give him a visible platform to publicly address this marine environmental issue and positively impact the thinking of British politicians and direction of government leaders who ultimately made this decision.
