SwimTrek is organizing its 5th annual SwimTrek 60k Swim. The eco-event runs throughout November where swimmers around the world can participate for free.
Free. As in zero euros, zero dollars, zero yen.
Participants can swim as a team or in some cases individually, to complete a total distance of 60 kilometers while they collectively raise awareness and funds for ocean conservation, an appropos goal for the global open water swimming community.
In partnership with 1% for the Planet, SwimTrek is committed to donating US$5 to Sea Trees for each participant registered. This year’s three-fold aim is for (1) 1,000 people to take part, (2) raise US$5,000, and (3) plant 5,000 SeaTrees. This initiative not only encourages swimmers to stay active wherever they are in the world, but also to contribute to restoring vital marine ecosystems.
“It started as a fun way to keep the SwimTrek community swimming when they couldn’t be together. The obvious next step is to encourage more people to take part, fundraise, and donate to the causes that help the environment,” said Ash Van Wensveen, the SwimTrek Managing Director. “We want to remove any financial and geographical barriers and bring together a global community, all while making a tangible difference for our oceans. This year, our goal is not just to swim but to create a ripple effect that leads to contributing to environmental change.”
SwimTrek is asking for their partners that share its commitment to swimming and sustainability, to be involved. Together, they aim to inspire swimmers worldwide to participate and contribute to a healthier ocean.
Participants can register for the SwimTrek 60k and track their progress throughout November. Swimmers can complete their distances in any setting – a pool, lakes, rivers, or oceans. If a newcomer is a bit nervous about swimming in open bodies of water during November, they can do their part in a pool.
Social media plays a large role. In the spirit of camaraderie and friendly competition, swimmers are encouraged to share their journeys on social media using the hashtag #SwimTrek60k.

SwimTrek works with Sea Trees, 1% for the Planet as well as FINIS, SwimSwam, Swim Across America, and US Masters Swimming to offer guided swim adventures and small group swimming holidays in 50 beautiful locations around the globe. With a focus on community, conservation, and adventure, SwimTrek is dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences that inspire a love for swimming and the natural environment.
SwimTrek 60k Swim started in 2019 as a way to keep the Northern Hemisphere community active during November. Because many swimmers are not always able to travel to the SwimTrek swimming holiday offerings, the 60k Swim was meant to be a fun, low-key event to keep swimmers engaged.
For every swimmer who registers, SwimTrek contributes to planting marine plants like seagrasses and mangroves that help combat climate change and protect marine life.
Very importantly, swimmers can participate anywhere and they can swim the 60 kilometers however they like at their own pace over
the course of November for free. SwimTrek has effectively eliminated barriers of entry.
