Swimming And Smiling From Cumbrae to Largs

John Burleigh started the Cumbrae to Largs Swim with 8 other open water friends back in 2006.

The 10th annual charity swim support the Gillian’s Saltire Appeal and is a 1.7-mile channel swim between Cumbrae and Largs about 33 miles (53 km) from Glasgow in western Scotland.

The Gillian’s Saltire Appeal was set up in memory of Gillian Ward who died of cancer in 2005 and to make a difference in the lives of others who suffer from the same illness. Gillian’s husband, Les, and a group of his friends organised a campaign to raise money to provide practical and meaningful help for people who suffer from cancer – and Burleigh has taken the appeal offshore.
