430 swimmers participated in today’s 10 km point-to-point race at the Shonan Open Water Swim from Zushi in Kanagawa Prefecture on the main island of Honshu to Enoshima, a small offshore island in Sagami Bay of Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
“Decades ago, this event could never have been imagined, let alone conducted in Japan,” says Steven Munatones. “But with the addition of the 10 km marathon swim in the Olympics and a rapidly growing number of 1 km, 2.5 km and 5 km races in Japan, as well as open water camps, clinics and swimming holidays among Japanese masters swimmers, extending a competitive race course for people of all ages to 10 km is the next natural evolution of open water swimming in Japan.”
357 swimmers participated in the 2015 event shown above.
