SwimChatSnack Launches with Jonty Warneken, Jacqui Hargrave, Claire Brumby

Spread the love

Paraswimming icon Jonty Warneken, author and ice/marathon swimmer Jacqui Hargrave, and motivational speaker and leadership coach Claire Brumby started their new podcast SwimChatSnack in October. Their insightful, warm-hearted banter is aimed at adult open water swimmers. They are now in their sixth episode during their first season.

Dressed warmly while sipping hot drinks, the trio presents an unscripted discussion based on their cumulative 30 years of open water swimming experiences. They laugh and nod in frequent agreement with an easy-going, friendly rapport that is clearly punctuated by a deep, mutual understanding and appreciation for cold water swimming and channel swimming.

As they chat about impressive adventures in training and with sanctioned channel crossings and official events, they touch upon incredible aquatic feats that are wholly untried and largely unknown by 99% of humanity, but that are profoundly respected and appreciated by the remaining 1%.

It is clear that they deeply enjoy the sport and co-host SwimChatSnack to inspire, educate, and celebrate the spirit of open water swimming. I am always inspired when British athletes discuss ice swimming so nonchalantly. Similar to when famed channel swimmer Kevin Murphy talks about going for a little dip, Jonty talks about swimming in sub-5°C water for an Ice Mile or even 13°C water for many hours so naturally (“…I wasn’t cold or shivering…”).

In Episode 1, the trio talks about Warneken’s 15 hour 24 minute 35 km North Channel crossing (for some background, see here) and swimming in the fall, preparing for the winter open water swimming season (click here)
