Swim For Her

Victor Monheim of Cincinnati, Ohio completed a 32.3 km crossing of the Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to Terranea Beach on the Southern California mainland on August 12th.

His time of 10 hours 41 minutes was fast.

Coached by Oceans Seven veteran Darren Miller and given that he has now swum in the Atlantic Ocean with a 12-mile swim around Key West, Florida and now across the Catalina Channel in the Pacific Ocean, his successful crossing was his first step – his first channel – of his Oceans Seven attempt.

Patricio Libenson and Bob Cohen observed the swim for the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation on board the Magician.

Monheim explains the purpose of his chasing of the Oceans Seven goal.  “I began my journey with the Catalina Channel this August.  I have partnered with The Aruna Project to help bring the fresh air of freedom to women suffocated by sexual slavery in Mumbai, India through the Swim for Her campaign.  We are asking donors to commit a certain amount of money per mile swam. It’s simple, the more miles I swim, the more freedom we are able to give to these women.

Women enslaved by sexual slavery are hidden in the shadows, unseen, unloved and unknown.  I’m swimming to bring their names to the surface and make them known to the world.  They deserve to be seen and heard.

Every breath is for her.  I swim for her.”
