Swim 4 Freedom, Shorter But Still An Important Distance

The 9th annual Swim 4 Freedom will be held on August 6th.

Safety of the 8-mile marathon swim on Geneva Lake in Wisconsin has become a growing concern.

In an effort to make the swim safer and get everyone out of the water sooner, race director Steele Whowell will host a 3-mile swim starting on Williams Bay Beach as the primary swim. Each swimmer are required to have their own support boat that can include SUP’s and kayaks.

We will also offer a 6-mile out-and-back course as an addition to the main 3-mile swim. To this distance you must prove, either by past Swim 4 Freedom times, or other long distance swim times, that you are capable of swimming 10 km in less than 3.5 hours.

I realize that not swimming the entire length of the lake might seem to take some of the allure of the event away, but this event raises money to support our military Special Forces and their families. We swim for them. That always has been, and will continue to be, the core of this event. The swim distance may change, but the cause we swim for stays the same.”
