Race director Colin Hill, fresh from his FINA responsibilities in Qiandao Lake in China, shook off jet lag and managed the organization of Swim Serpentine.
6,000 swimmers participated in the 3rd annual Swim Serpentine event in Hyde Park in the heart of London with distances of 0.5, 1, 2 and 6 miles [Super Six].
43-year-old Amy McVitie from Shepherds Bush finished in 4 hours 14 minutes and was among the 49 Super Six finishers, “I’ve done the 1-mile swims for the last two years and I’ve come out of the water feeling I’d like to do more, so in a moment of madness I thought, ‘Let’s do six miles’. It’s one of the few open water swims in London and brilliantly organised. It’s a really good event.”
Peter Madsen won the 1-mile event in 18:32 while Patrick Brown on the 2-mile event in 37:14. Lærke Ruby won both the 1-mile (21:01) and 2-mile races (42:43{ among the women.
