The Dis-Chem Sun City Swim was started in 1998 when 173 swimmers swam 2 laps of a 750m course in Sun City, South Africa.

The event has grown each year with 3,196 entrants participating in the 2014 races (both 1.5 km and 3 km). Olympian Chad Ho will lead an even larger field in 2015 including swimmers from all over South Africa.

Each year, the Courage Award goes to a swimmer who has overcome an obstacle of some sort and still swim. The 2014 Courage Award went to Brenda Noonan.
