Success In The Eastern Provinces

Michael Marais and Jessica Roux ended the 2009-2010 season as the top swimmers in the Eastern Province Open Water Swim Series held at Marina Martinique, Jeffreys Bay in South Africa.

The Eastern Province Open Water Swim Series, sanctioned by Swim South Africa, offered distances from 1K to 10K in the six-event series.

Michael won the last swim in 2:09:19 while Jessica won in 2:12:29 as they both qualified for the 2010 South African 10K Championships.

Michael also won the 5K race on day 2 with Tammy Geyer winning the women’s 5K over Mary Anne Stott.

Mike Zoetmulder, Series organizer, remarked, “In addition to our top competitive swimmers, six entrants in the 10K were over the age of 40 which shows the sport has appeal to the top master’s swimmers as well as the open age group,” in a reference to masters winners Brenton Williams and SanMarie Woithe.
