Steve West has always been good – and he seems to be getting better and better the more years he puts in the water.

The Huntington Beach, California native and CEO of Project Insight has been a world-class American breaststroker and surfer for three decades.

After becoming the oldest American man at the age of 39 to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, West has been on a roll in his 40-44 year age group in the masters swimming world and went after a record in a fast English Channel relay (see here and below).

His enthusiasm for swimming, surfing and the open water are infectious; his balanced lifestyle and his blazing speed were recognized by Swimming World Magazine that named West as one of its Top 12 World Masters Swimmers of the Year.

The balloting process is based on the release of the FINA Masters world records set during the period between November 1st 2014 through October 31st 2015. West’s most recent world record was a 2:18.57 in the 200m breaststroke.

In a conversation with Swimming World Magazine (listen here), West talks about how he trains and about the potential of older athletes in the water.
