At the Seventh Annual Lake Willoughby Swim on August 20th, 37-year-old Steve Hodgins won a quart of maple syrup and a six-pack of day tickets to Burke Mountain Ski Resort for cruising to the fastest time of the 5-mile race in 1 hour 54 minutes. Close behind him were 63-year-old Bill Pease in 2 hours 1 minute 20 seconds and 22-year-old William Larkins in 2 hours 1 minute 42 seconds.

Among the women, Abigail Onos finished first in 2 hours 57 seconds followed by 12-year-old Vera Rivard with a time of 2:07:32. Third place went to Vera’s younger sister, 9-year-old Margaret Rivard who finished in 2:27:05 and became the youngest person to swim the length of Lake Willoughby between North Beach and South Beach.

The Willoughby Swim is part of Swim the Kingdom Week that offers swims in 8 lakes over the course of 9 days totaling 45+ miles. 60 swimmers from around the country and Canada swam one or more lakes during the week. Three swimmers swam all 8 lakes: 62-year-ol Paula Yankauskas, 44-year-old Tiffany McQueen, and Vera Rivard [shown above].

On the Friday before the week began, 50-year-old Janet Harris double-crossed Lake Willoughby with a time of 5 hours 1 minutes [shown above] to join Shannon House Keegan as the only two documented Kingdom Swimmers to have completed a double-crossing of Willoughby.
