After a stellar career in competitive swimming where she won four medals at the 2007 Pan American Games and competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2011 FINA World Championships, and the 2012 London Olympics in butterfly, freestyle and individual medley events, Canada’s Stephanie Horner has moved into open water swimming.

She qualified to represent Canada at the 2016 Olympic 10 km selection race in Setúbal Bay, Portugal in June based on her first-place finish among Canadian women at the USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships in Fort Myers, Florida yesterday. She will be joined by Jade Dusablon for a spot among the 25 finalists in Copacabana Beach at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Despite facing pneumonia in the last month, she overcame her illness and talks about her effort above after her 10 km swim.
