Pádraig Mallon reported that 8 swimmers successfully passed their 2-hour qualification swim for a North Channel relay attempt.
“With an incoming tide, south southeasterly winds of approximately 20 knots, a sunny blue sky the beautiful backdrop of Carlingford Co. Louth met eight swimmers who set out at a fast pace for what would be a two-hour passport swim. North Channel swimming rules applied – one silicone swim cap and one standard swim costume. Feeds were offered every half hour and swimmers stroke rates where assessed every hour, each swimmer covering various distances depending on this. Water safety was of paramount importance in this challenging section of open water.”
Shane Reenan of Louth Adventures piloted one craft while Mallon piloted the other. All 8 completed their passport swim assessment with water temperature of 10°C (50°F) degrees.
