For those who would like to swim across an iconic Russian river, the Stada Volga Swim already has over 1,500 people from 15 countries entered.
Julia Filippova explains, “For Russian swimmers, this event is especially significant because ‘Mother Volga’ is legendary river, the core of the Russian people, the imaginative ideal reflected in the culture and soul of every Russian.
Right where the 1 km, 3 km and 5 km races takes place, Mother Volga is joined with another large river ‑ Oka. As a result, there is variable river flow and temperatures, adding to the unique character of the race. The river is different every year and every day. Swimmers who participated in 2016 and 2017 swam in two completely different Volgas.
Nizhny Novgorod is an old and beautiful city founded in 1221. The city is interesting with monuments of architecture from the 17th to 19th centuries and a unique natural relief with stunning views of the Volga valley. In Soviet times, it was a large industrial center, now it has become the main center of river tourism in Russia.
Nizhny is a great place to visit with many clubs and restaurants with reasonable prices and great service and the longest in Europe cable car over the river overlooking the Volga Swim course.”
