Spyros Gianniotis recalled his three-decade swimming career that culminated with a silver medal performance in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He has now taken the helm of the Greek Swimming Federation as its president. “Three decades ago I started a journey, starting from my island Corfu. Today I start a second trip, the presidency of the Greek Swimming Federation, hoping that it will be just as big and the same fascinating with what I experienced as an athlete.
I lived…with the strong moments of joy and disappointments. The strength I felt as an athlete to overcome difficulties and obstacles, I still feel today.”
Gianniotis’ experience, dedication and passion for aquatics is not only a shining light domestically in his native country of Greece, but also internationally among his competitors and officials throughout the FINA family.
