Smoothing Swimmer’s Skin

Whether swimming in the open water, a seaside lido or a chlorinated pool, an open water swimmer’s skin is the most exposed element on the human body.

Their eyes are protected by goggles and their hair by a swim cap, but their skin is beaten unmercifully and harshly by the sun, wind, salinity or years chemicals.

Year after year, decade after decade, this kind of unrelenting all-over skin exposure helps make one’s skin lose its elasticity and youthful appearance.

Vital Proteins from Elk Grove Village, Illinois makes a marine collagen product that is an excellent anti-aging dietary supplement, especially for maintaining healthy skin for swimmers.

What is marine collagen? Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and is a key element of the body’s connective tissues. Collagen provides the infrastructure of the musculoskeletal system. Peptides are short chain amino acids naturally derived from collagen protein.

These natural peptides are bio-available, digestible and soluble in cold water,” explains Sarah Shears of Vital Proteins. “The intake of collagen ensures the cohesion, elasticity and regeneration of skin, hair, tendon, cartilage, bones and joints.

Collagen is a natural and healthy ingredient that has been used for centuries. Collagen-rich foods are included in traditional diets. Our ancestors utilized whole-animal nutrition which provided an abundant amount of collagen, the native form of gelatin. Over time in modern society, we have lost touch with this powerful, healing nutrient.”

Vital Proteins produces two different kinds of products: one made from grass-fed cattle raised in Brazil and one from fish off Hawaii. The density of collagen in the cells of fish is greater than that in cattle. Both are high in protein. “The Vital Proteins’ Marine Collagen product is made from the scales of fresh Non-GMO Project verified snapper wild caught in the Pacific Ocean near hawaii using sustainable harvesting.”

For more information on the US$49 Marine Collagen product (about US$2.04 cost per serving) or the US$24 cattle product (US$1.71 cost per serving), visit www.vitalproteins.com.
