International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honor Swimmer Lynton Mortenson (Australia, 60, MSF bio here, IISA bio here) described his ninth career Ice Mile at the 2026 South African Ice Swimming Championships held on August 1st – 2nd at the Afriski Resort in Lesotho, South Africa here.

The event has a rich history, starting in 2015.

With the water temperature at 2.23°C and the air temperature at 2.00°C this year, Ram Barkai worked with referee Reino Von Wielligh and medical officer Daniel Fiandeiro at 3,030 meters to host the event, together with a team of doctors, medics, a water safety team, officials, timekeepers, seconds and volunteers.
