Sid Cassidy received another honor in his long five-decade career as a swimmer, coach, official and administrator.
The North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame will induct Cassidy as a member of the Class of 2020 this coming March. “Our Class of 2020 North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame Inductees represent standouts in all levels of swimming competition, coaching, and administration,” said Ceil Blackwell, co-chair of the North Carolina Swimming Hall of Fame Committee. “They represent accomplishments in Swimming, Open Water Swimming, and Masters Swimming, and we are delighted to recognize their achievements in, and contributions to, the sport of swimming.”
Cassidy was a stand-out competitive swimmer and professional marathon swimmer in his teens and early 20’s. He then followed that up with a decorated coaching career that is currently being capped off with a distinguished career as a member of the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee where he officiated and administered the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio Olympics with plans to continue at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 2024 Paris Olympics, 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and beyond. He is currently the aquatic director and head coach at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Florida when he is not traveling the world officiating Olympic and world championship open water competitions.
