As she is traveling around the world from her native Netherlands to Hawaii, three-time Olympic open water swimming medalist Sharon van Rouwendaal (33, Netherlands, MSF bio here, World Aquatics bio here, @svrouwendaal) is stopping in Southern California to give a 3-hour master class at the Naples Island Swims in Long Beach, California.

Race director Greg Shea announced, “We are grateful to have Sharon van Rouwendaal join us for our annual swim as our Guest of Honor. Sharon has won two Olympic gold medals and one Olympic silver medal in the 10K open water swims.

Sharon will be headlining this event on August 22nd between 8 and 11 am at the US Sailing Center at 5489 E. Ocean Blvd Long Beach, CA 90803.“

The master class will offer

• Meet & Greet and autographs
• Classroom question & answer session and introduction to understand the swimmers, their background, and goals
• Dryland and injury prevention (30–40 minutes) using Therabands that focuses on shoulder stability, posture, and awareness
• In-water coaching (30-40 minutes) focusing on technique, posture, efficiency, and connection
• Keynote speech and closing followed by another 30-minute question & answer session
