Shadia Rhageb Stands Uniquely Alone Among Egyptians

There are only seven swimmers from Egypt who have been inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

But only one is a woman.

Shadia Rhageb [standing in the last row, second from right in Canada in 1973] was inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1971 as an Honour Swimmer – and for good reason.

She was the 1971 and 1972 World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation champion. During her 1971 season, she went undefeated in all her international races.

She won the 32 km (20-mile) Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in 1970, 1972 and 1973 as well as won the 24 Heures La Tuque relay in Canada.

In 1968, she won the International Turkey Swim and the 30 km International Bulgaria Swim in 1969, 1970 and 1971.
