Romina Imwinkelried Taking It All In

23-year-old Romina Imwinkelried from San Jerónimo Norte has already has a vast experience in the 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda in her native Argentina.

This will be my fourth participation [in Santa Fe-Coronda]. I’m a little calmer, I do not have the nerves of how the race is going to be. The race does not take me as a surprise; I know what I’m going to face and that makes me enjoy it a little more.”

Coached by Cristian Primón, the Club Atlético Libertad swimmer is looking forward to this year’s February 4th race.

For this edition, I am training double workouts, with 10 workouts in the water and five in the gym per week. I was also doing a couple of runs along the river. Each race has its particularity; because it is so difficult my first goal is to finish. Then we can [focus] on a slightly bigger goal.

My idea is to complete the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series. Last year I competed in Santa Fe – Coronda and the Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, but this year I hope to be ranked at the end of the year.

As a local, the young swimmer is one of the swimming heroines. “La Santa Fe – Coronda is a most special race. Being from our area, with all the history it has, we feel it a little closer and [it] hits us harder.”
