Robin Lajoie is a 69-year-old Canadian triathlete-turned-marathon butterflyer from Hamilton, Ontario.
On August 16th 2024, he swam 16.28 km of open water butterfly in Lake Ontario in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.
His butterfly marathon took him 10 hours 48 minutes to complete.
But he wasn’t completely satisfied. He wanted to do more, faster and better.
Sly Sedivy reported on Lajoie’s second attempt. “The water got choppy in the afternoon in Lake Ontario on August 16th. Robin was not happy with either his time or the distance, so he broke his record again two weeks later on August 28th by swimming 20 km in 9 hours 57 minutes in Lake Niapenco at the Binbrook Conservation Area.”

This man inspires me to push myself beyond my limits – in swimming as well as in other areas of my life. As a result, my limits keep gradually expanding. I’m a better and stronger man, in part because of him.
