The Lake Argyle Swim, held in Western Australia, only took 2 hours to sell out. A record number of team (99) and team members (423 swimmers, paddlers and pilots) will participate in the 2016 event.
* 33 solo swimmers will participate in the 10 km race while 6 swimmers will participate in the 20 km race.
* 7 duo teams will participate in the 10 km race while 4 teams will participate in the 20 km race.
* 25 quad teams will participate in the 10 km race while 24 swimmers will participate in the 20 km race.
Event Manager Glenn Taylor said, “It is great to see returning champions coming back to defend their 2015 titles including Five River Swimmers (10 km Duo team), Aquaholics (20 km Quad team) and Same Olds. Also welcome back our perennial bridesmaids in the 20 km Quad team race, the Burleigh Boys. We all hope they get the job done in 2016.
There are also many familiar names including local stalwarts Sooty Grunters, Charlie’s Angles, Croc Bait, Vintage 71, and many more.”
The historical growth of the event:
2006: 6 swimmers from Balmoral in a charity swim
2007: 57 swimmers, organized by Jim Hughes and the KCCI as a part of the Ord Valley Muster
2008: Event cancelled
2009: 22 swimmers, event cancelled but social swim held
2010: 27 swimmers, organized by the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley
2011: 63 swimmers, organized by the Lake Argyle Swim Inc. and Event Manager Taneille Anderson of Desert Wave Events
2012: 117 swimmers, organized by the Lake Argyle Swim Inc. and Taneille Anderson
2013: 140 swimmers, organized by the Lake Argyle Swim Inc. and Glenn Taylor
2014: 183 swimmers, sold out in 6 hours and winner of Western Australia Event of the Year
2015: 200 swimmers, sold out in 3 hours
2016: 249 swimmers in 99 teams, sold out in 2 hours
