RCP Tiburon Mile Is Back

For 14 years, the RCP Tiburon Mile attracted everyone from Olympic medalists to Special Olympic athletes, from world champions to masters swimmers, from wetsuited swimmers to those with disabilities. But its sponsor, Robert C. Placak & Associates, took off a year to focus on the incorporation of new insurance policies that were mandated in America.

But the year flew by and Bob Placak is back hosting the 15th Annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim on September 20th.

Elite athletes, coming from around the world to participate, include New Zealand’s Kane Radford, a 3-time winner of the RCP Tiburon Mile, and Russian open water champion, Evgeny Bezruchenko, who will swim his 14th RCP Tiburon Mile this year,” explained Placak. “Other competitors include Olympic champion Ous Mellouli from Tunisia, Michael Sheil from Australia, Olympic medalist Richard Weinberger from Canada, Mateusz Sawymowics, Sean Ryan, Eric Nilsson, Rhys Mainstone, Chip Peterson, University of California Berkeley and UCLA swim teams, and other universities. Also, David Carry from Scotland, a 3-time Olympian and his wife Keri-Anne Payne a 2-time Olympian will also compete together with Ashley Twitchell, Brooke Bennett, and Christine Jennings. Although many elite athletes will compete, this race is open to all swimmers. We look forward to the families and locals that swim the event and join us for the festival after.”

This year’s event will include live music and lunch catered by more than 20 outstanding local restaurants including Rustic Bakery, Green Chile, Tiburon Tavern, Milanos, and Il Davide.

The RCP Tiburon Mile has raised US$1.4 million dollars for charity. We support Hospice by the Bay and Pulmonary Hypertension Association.

We are also raising money for Theo St. Francis, a 20-year-old swimmer who was in an impact accident at a beach. He is paralyzed from the chest down, but continues to put his all into each day and has continued his passion for swimming. Two years since the accident, Theo is now doing open water swims.”
