Randa Elmahdy (@elmahdy_randa) from Cairo, Egypt is a 44-year-old mother of 3 children – and an engineer – and a popular Ironman triathlete – and, now, a marathon swimmer.
She was in good hands with an experienced support team that included two International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame inductees Mohamed Marouf and Stéphane Lecat.
Lecat reported on her Marathon Swimmers Federation-observed swim, “Randa made a successful solo 14 km crossing of Lac d’Annecy in France in 5 hours 11 minutes. The water temperature was 19°C and the outside temperature was between 20°C and 22°C during that day.“
Marouf added, “Randa left the beach Albiny in Annecy at 8:57 am and finished her crossing on the beach of Doussard at 2:07 pm. She started with a high pace on the first hour, and then held a very steady pace throughout the crossing. She ws always very lucid, communicated very well until her arrival on Doussard’s beach. She still had a lot of energy to celebrate her feat as the first Egyptian woman to achieve this swim.”
Renowned as one of the World’s Best Open Water Swimming Towns, Lac d’Annecy is known as Europe’s cleanest lake because of strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960’s.
