It is not often that a head of state congratulates an open water swimmer.
But one of those rare occasions happened this week when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated open water swimmer Bhakti Sharma for swimming 1.4 miles in the 1ºC water temperature in the Antarctic Ocean in 52 minutes.
“We are all very very proud of Bhakti Sharma for her accomplishments! My best wishes to her,” Prime Minister Modi said in a statement.
