Phoebe Hines, an Australian who swims for the University of Hawaii, joined an illustrious list of women who were the first overall finishers in the Double Roughwater Swim in Honolulu, Hawaii: Kailu Chun (1981 and 1982), Kari Lydersen (1995), Cherelle Osteringer (2014) and Haley Chasin (2017).
Hines finished the 7 km race in 1 hour 30 minutes 38 seconds, breaking the women’s record by Osteringer set in 2014.
Formally known as the Hawaiian Christmas Looong Distance Invitation Rough-H2O Swim, the Double Roughwater is a course along the Waikiki Roughwater Swim.
