Pat Gallant-Charette, an American nurse extraordinaire, continues to raise the bar and push the envelope what older swimmers can do.

At the age of 65 years and 204 days, she completed one of the most remarkable swims of 2016.

Three years after she swam for nearly 17 hours and was pulled less than one mile from the finish, Gallant-Charette returned to the notoriously fickle North Channel between Northern Ireland and Scotland. In August, she became the oldest woman to complete a crossing of the North Channel in 14 hours 22 minutes.

She is now the oldest woman to complete a crossing of the Catalina Channel (age 60), Tsugaru Channel (age 61), and North Channel (age 65) with future plans to revisit her attempts of the Cook Strait and Molokai Channel.
