Ross Edgley (@rossedgley) is less than 24 hours from the start of The Great Icelandic Swim, his assisted 1,600 km stage swim around Iceland, scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm local time on Friday, May 16th.

The 39-year-old British adventurer will be supported by videographer and observer Benjamin Marshall, First Mate Maisie Bristow, Skipper Jacob Carter, documentation coordinator Ger Kennedy, and others who will assist along the 80-100 day expedition.

Kennedy reported that the first week’s water temperature will be between 6 and 7°C. Edgley is hoping to traverse an average of 20 km per day of swimming, but he will have to deal with orcas as well as chafing, volcanic activity as well as tides, hypothermia as well as massively large and random waves.

The location of the escort boat, SKIRR Adventures, is posted and updated here. In calmer waters, Edgley will be escorted by a small 4-meter tender instead of the 68-foot sailboat.

  1. You are the role models that all people need young and old but especially young! With so many toxic men trying to manipulate young men’s minds – here we have a true hero; pushing himself to the limits but always trying to encourage and support others. Not toxic masculinity but heroic masculinity. Go Ross 🏊🏊👌👍🤩🥰🥰❤️
