What is it about October 16th-17th in the open water swimming world?
There are all kinds of incredible long-distance open water swimming events going on that weekend. These marathon races include:
The OptimisSports multi-race Distance Swim Challenge, a series of 1.2-, 2.4-, 4.8- and 12.6-mile races in Santa Monica, California. A short introduction by an ESPN personality is here
The 15K Clean Half Marathon Swim, one of the world’s top 100 open water swims, is held Hong Kong and a relay with a carbon-neutral option and a solo race.
The 10-mile (16K) Swim The Suck is a new downstream river swim in Tennessee River near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The 17.5-mile Ederle Swim is the finale in the New York City swim season. The Ederle Swim is a challenging swim from New Jersey to New York that serves as a tribute to the first woman to swim the English Channel.
The OptimisSports Distance Swim Challenge, the Clean Half Marathon Swim, the Swim The Suck event and the Ederle Swim – all on the same day.
On October 17th, the 20th annual Bermuda Round the Sound Swim will have its largest field ever with nearlly 150 swimmers entered. They are coming around all over including 24 states in America.
Also on that day, in San Francisco Bay, the extraordinarily competitive RCP Tiburon Mile will showcase several Olympic champions, medalists, world champions and superstars from the sport of pool swimming and open water swimming.
