Olympic 10K Marathon Swim – Course Update on August 1st

The men’s and women’s Olympic triathlon races were postponed by a day, but were held successfully as the women raced earlier in the day and the men raced later in the game.

We predicted that due to the light rain that fell in the early morning of the race, the cycling would be far more dangerous than the Seine was. Sadly and unfortunately, that prediction came through – although many media outlets reported inaccurately that the triathletes were vomiting after the race due to water quality issues.

Spanish triathlete Anna Godoy told the media, “The water was fine. We have [swum in water] way worse. The strong currents were actually more of a problem because we weren’t able to do the reconnaissance of the river in the days prior.

Today’s Seine water flow seemed to have slowed down significantly from a few days ago (see below).

The yellow buoys and the taller orange (turn) buoys (shown above) will be used on the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim on August 8th (women) and August 9th (men).
