Great Britain is on a role. It has a number of elite superstars that belie its relatively small domestic swimming population (Rebecca Adlington in the pool, Keri-Anne Payne, Cassandra Patten and David Davies in both the pool and open water, and world-renowned channel swimmers like Kevin Murphy, Michael Read, Alison Streeter and many others.
It has world-class mass participation events like the Great Swims and it has home-grown entrepreneurial efforts like SwimTrek and open water swimming training facilities and squads throughout the country. It is truly a great place to be over the next few years in the build-up to the 2012 London Games.
But the results did not come without effort. On the elite side, men like Mark Perry and long-term strategic commitment from the board of directors of British Swimming have been essential to their success. Entrepreneurial vision from people like Colin Hill and Simon Murie has been critical to success. Entertaining motivation and informational flow from people like Outdoor Swimming Society‘s Kate Rew, H2Open Magazine‘s Simon Griffiths, English Channel database guru Julian Critchlow, Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation‘s Michael Oram and Nick Adams have also added to the evolving mass participation in everything from mass participation 1-mile swims and tours to English Channel attempts and new publications and public awareness.
So while Mark Perry continues to lead the elite open water swimming team, British Swimming continues to make investment in the sport. It is currently seeking a Programme Manager to assist the British Development and Open Water Coach with the planning and implementation of the effective delivery of the Development and Open Water Programme’s competitions, camps and activities and ensuring the Development and Open Water Programme operate in a well structured coordinated manner.
They are looking for an individual with proven experience at the international level and sound technical knowledge of competitive swimming as well as experience of management and leadership including dealing with high performance issues. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills as the role requires liaising with a range of audiences.
At an annual salary of £35,858, the expectations are appropriately high.
