Ky Hurst won his 8th Noosa Eyeline 1000 swim – one of the longest winning streaks of any individual in any open water swim anywhere in the world.

The Australian Olympic legend outswam the Grimsey duo – older brother Trent and younger brother Codie – to win in glassy-smooth conditions in 11:27.

“There are some of the best open water swimmers in the world, so it’s nice to get that win,” commented Ky who had fine-tuned his conditions in the Northern Hemisphere summer. “I’ve been training pretty hard, so I was expecting to feel quite good out there.”

On the other hand, the favorite on the women’s side, Melissa Gorman, perhaps tired after a long competitive open water and pool season in North America, was upset by up-and-comer Danielle Defrancesco in the 1K race. Danielle finished in 12:44 with Sarah Kime and Alicia Marriott tied for third.

“It wasn’t as hard as last time but it was still hard having to do that run in the middle,” commented Danielle. “I went out pretty fast and I couldn’t really see behind me. I just felt really good during the race.”
