Nick Thomas, a 45-year-old British swimmer from Ellesmere in Shropshire, completed an English Channel crossing in 2014 with a wetsuit as part of the Enduroman Arch to Arc triathlon between London and Paris. Today, he was pulled unconscious from the Channel today less than a mile from his intended finish in France according to the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation, and later pronounced dead in France.
News reports state that Thomas was in the water for approximately 16 hours (without a wetsuit in his attempt) before being unconscious from the water, given CPR, and taken to Calais, France.
