Harvard alumna and broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien, formerly of CNN and now founder of the Starfish Media Group production company, delivers her speech at today’s Harvard University’s 362nd Commencement in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

O’Brien talks about her mother’s advice that “most people are idiots”; a profound bit of wisdom that O’Brien explains during her speech.

She describes people in our society and community who explain what you cannot do, what you should not do, what you will never be able to accomplish, and why you will fail when you try something you haven’t done.

“By not listening [to those], you can figure out what your heart is telling what you can do,” she says. “By not taking advice [from those people] means you will break those boundaries, those walls.”
