California’s Long Beach runs an ocean and bay water testing program.
The ocean and bay waters are monitored for bacteria levels weekly. These results are placed in the following categories:
* Green: Open where the water quality meets the State of California standards.
* Blue: Advisory where the water quality does not meet minimum State of California standards. Additional samples are taken until the water quality improves to meet State standards.
* Yellow: Rain Advisory is required by state law when rainfall exceeds 0.1 inch. It is recommended to avoid water contact for at last 72 hours after the rainstorm as stopped.
* Red: Closure signs are posted at the direction of the Health Department whenever there is known contamination in the water that may impact the public’s health.
Current water quality information can be found on the Recreational Water Program website or on the Water Quality hotline at +-1562-570-4199.
