While many were planning a year of action, change, improvement or achievement, Dr. Marcy MacDonald from Manchester, Connecticut, jumped in the coolish waters of Florida (64°F/17.7°C) and swam 24 miles across Tampa Bay at a 3.8 kph pace with a few dolphins in sight to finish the traditional Tampa Bay Marathon Swim course in 9 hours 13 minutes on December 31st 2017.
It was the latest crossing of Tampa Bay in history for the podiatrist nicknamed the American Queen of the English Channel.
Video of her swim by event director Ron Collins is posted here.
