Marcia Cleveland (62, USA, MSF bio here, IISA bio here, @marciac944) has a long list of achievements over her 32-year career – and there is no sign of slowing down:
- Frosted Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming with an Ice Mile in 4.15°C water and 2.20°C air
- one of the fastest 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swims in history
- was the solo finisher in the 25 km Swim Across The Sound in 2014
- completed the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming with crossings of the Santa Barbara Channel, Catalina Channel, and Lake Tahoe
- completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming
- completed the Grand Slam of Open Water Swimming
- completed the Oceans Seven
- and, most recently, completed the Original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming with crossings of the English Channel, North Channel, and Bristol Channel
She completed a mid-course route of the Bristol Channel from south to north. She started at Glenthorne in Devon, England and finished at Sandy Beach in Porthcawl, Wales after 9 hours 48 minutes 35 seconds, setting a new women’s course record.
Cleveland said, “The swim went well for me and my meticulous preparation paid off. My boat pilot, Tom Chapman of Monster Swims, is top notch and he will only continue to improve. My job during the swim was to do just that: swim. I had no idea until the very end of my rate of speed and proximity to the finish. My incredible crew, headed up by [my daughter] Julia Green and included Welsh local Siân Clement, and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame legend Sally Minty-Gravett, MBE took advantage of the day’s excellent conditions and helped me do the best swim I could do. We were a united team during this crossing and I am grateful for all you did for me.“
