In 2015, the warm waters off the coast of Long Beach, California were the site of the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games 1.5 km open water race [see below].

The location may be the site of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games 10 km marathon swim. Perhaps. At least that was the original plan with details to be publicly provided sometime in the future [a LA Olympics 2028 illustration is shown on left].
