Lewis Pugh On His Final Stretch Into Manhattan

Spread the love

Lewis Pugh, OIG is swimming his final stage of his 507 km eco swim from the source of the Hudson River to Battery Park on Manhattan Island today. His often twice daily stage swims have taken a tough physical toll on him, but his constant smile and joy at swimming with local people along the way have portrayed his joy at his 30-day adventure down the Hudson River.

Pugh swam with young children, college students, fellow marine environmentalists like Christopher Swain along his journey. He and his team lived upon a catamaran for most of the day and endured thunderstorms and heavy rain at times. With the water temperature a tepid 79°F (26°C), the famed ice swimmer has also had to deal with unfamiliarly high air and water temperatures.

The end of his swim will be at the American Merchant Mariners’ Memorial in Battery Park in New York City sometime between 10:00 and 10:30 am EST. Rain expected.
