British world champion Keri-Anne Payne just touched out 2-time Olympian Ana Marcela Cunha with her Brazilian teammate Poliana Okimoto in third at the last race of the FINA/HOSA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup.
Payne finished the World Cup race in Hong Kong in 2:05:25.6 to Cunha’s 2:05:25.7.
While Payne has been picking up speed and victories towards the end of the summer season, Cunha demonstrated her consistency with her 16th consecutive international podium finish over the last 3 years. “I am very happy with my performance. It was a well-fought race. We were swimming a very strong pace and any one of us could have won. When we came together [to the finish], it was up to the photo finish,” said Cunha.
