Kamil Resa Alsaran Completes Very Rare Triple Crown Of Open Water Swimming

Kamil Resa Alsaran of Turkey swam in history a few weeks ago.

Kevin Murphy completed the Original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming in 1971: solo swims across the 33.5 km English Channel, 35 km North Channel, and 28 km Bristol Channel.

Ted Keenan was the second individual to complete the Triple Crown across the English Channel, North Channel and Bristol Channel in 1975. 45 years passed with no additional swimmers who achieved the rare feat.

Kamil Resa Alsaran completed the vaulted Triple Crown on September 10th at the age of 59 after a 13 hour 9 minute crossing. He explains, “As Bristol Channel has the second highest tide in the world, there are very few attempts and successful swims. The last successful crossing along the course that I took (27.3 km from Glenthorne to Porthcawl was in 1982.”

He became the 7th person to achieve the Bristol Channel course – and joined International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honor Swimmers Murphy and Keenan as the only people to achieve the Original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
