It was a great race and fast with the currents and tide in everyone’s favor,” described race director Doug Woodring of the 15 km Cold Half Extreme Marathon Swim in Hong Kong.

There were a few manhole-sized jellyfish [along the course], but they don’t sting. They just give you a bit of a visual shock as you run into one with your head down. The Coastal Hug course was a hit as it allowed people and support crew to really enjoy the amazing scenery, mountains, rock faces and cliffs that Hong Kong has to offer, making its ocean asset all the more valuable and interesting.”

Both 34-year-old Julie Newton (4:14:48.7) and 59-year-old Ned Denison (3:52:25.9) set non-wetsuit solo course records today.
