Over the first two days of open water swimming events at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Lake Balaton, France has earned 2 gold medals, Italy has 1 silver and 1 bronze, Ecuador has 1 silver, Brazil has 1 bronze, and Great Britain has 1 bronze.
Surprisingly, the Dutch and American swimmers have been shut out of podium positions. But with the men’s 10 km race coming up, open water swimming fans will be treated to one of the most anticipated showdowns at the Championships between reigning world champion Jordan Wilimovsky of the USA and Olympic gold medalist Ferry Weertman of the Netherlands. The rivals are primed to put their stamp on the Lake Balaton events, but it is anticipated to be a very fast, very strategic race.
The American and Dutchman placed 1-2 in the 10 km world championship race in Kazan, Russia at the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships – and they very well come end up on top of the podium again in Lake Balaton on Tuesday.
