Jordan Wilimovsky And Dave Kelsheimer With Ned Denison On WOWSA Live
Sponsored by KAATSU, Odaiba Marine Park, Tokyo Bay, Japan.
On March 24th, the International Olympic Committee decided to postpone the 2020 Tokyo Olympics one year. The postponement is unprecedented. Athletes and coaches have to radically change their plans, but for most competitive swimmers around the world, training plans have already changed due to the nearly ubiquitous lockdowns, quarantines and shelter-in-place ordinances in the countries where the swimmers have already qualified.*
While no medals will be awarded this July and August as scheduled, at least the athletes and coaches have time to adjust to the new realities of the Tokyo Olympics being held between July 23rd and August 8th 2021.
America’s Jordan Wilimovsky and his coach Dave Kelsheimer from Team Santa Monica will explain the situation from their perspective and how they will steer their course going forward to August 5th 2021 in today’s Open Water Monday.
Wilimovsky is a 25-year-old two-time Olympic swimmer from California. He finished 5th in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim in Rio de Janeiro at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, less than 60 hours after finishing 4th in the 1500m freestyle in the Olympic pool swimming finals. In 2021, he plans to double-up again in the 1500m freestyle and the 10 km marathon swim. In 2015, he was named the Swimming World Magazine Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year and FINA’s Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year after winning the 10 km FINA world championship in Kazan, Russia – and has clearly established himself among the highest echelon of distance freestyle swimmers, both in the pool and open water.
“Jordan is intelligent, intense and totally dedicated to his craft and way of life,” observed Steven Munatones. “He is also humble and totally understands the open water. He surfs and lives in Malibu, right by the beach. He is a waterman, through and through.”
WOWSA Live broadcast weekly one-hour online interviews that focus on sharing the lifestyles, backgrounds and mindsets of luminaries in the open water swimming world. International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairman Ned Denison and Munatones co-host the series.
