Jim Boucher of Guildford, Surrey, England is usually swimming across channels and is never swayed by cold water.

He was among his most hardened colleagues in Tyumen, Russia at the 2016 Winter Swimming World Championships.

On the first day, he placed 8th in the 25m breaststroke, 6th in the 50m breaststroke, 7th in the 25m freestyle and 6th in the 50m freestyle respectively.

In and out and in and out of the near 0ºC water, the hardened Irish marathon swimmer had an interesting perspective of the temperature. “It was as warm as it looks; you toast under your warm coats. The air temp was -4ºC at noon while the water is 0ºC point something.”
