James Biles received the 2016 U.S. Masters Swimming Dorothy Donnelly Service Award for his volunteer effort and time that he has devoted to the Wisconsin Local Masters Swimming Committee.
The 55-year-old U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and chairman of the of Wisconsin Local Masters Swimming Committee was recently featured in U.S. Masters Swimming’s Swimming Magazine.
The winner of the 2016 U.S. Masters Swimming National 10-mile Open Water Swimming Championships in Lake Memphremagog, Vermont (4 hours 10 minutes) is a lifelong swimmer (age-group, collegiate, masters) who volunteers his time and talents to create the timelines for all the U.S. Masters Swimming open water and ePostal national championship events.
“I wanted to give back to the sport that has given me so much. I became active with the Wisconsin Local Masters Swimming Committee and became a board member as the open water and long distance chair in 2012,” he told Kristina Henry.
The events that he helps organize include:
*Speedo USMS 1-Hour ePostal National Championship between January 1st and February 28th, hosted by O*H*I*O* Masters
*USMS Marathon Distance Open Water National Championship (7 miles) on April 22nd, Swim Around Lido Key in Sarasota, Florida
*USMS Ultramarathon Distance Open Water National Championship (10 miles) on June 3rd, Chattanooga Open Water Swim Team in Chattanooga, Tennessee
*USMS Middle Distance Open Water National Championship (2.4 miles) on June 4th, Chattanooga Open Water Swim Team in Chattanooga, Tennessee
*USMS Cable Open Water National Championship (2 miles) on June 24th, Central Oregon Masters Association in Foster Lake, Oregon
*USMS Long Distance Open Water National Championship (5 km) on July 30th, Central Oregon Masters Association in Elk Lake, Oregon [part of the 3-day, 5-event 23rd Annual Cascade Lakes Swim Series and Festival)
*Speedo USMS 5K/10K ePostal National Championships between May 15th and September 15th, hosted by Swim Fort Lauderdale
*Speedo USMS 3000/6000 Yard ePostal National Championships between September 15th and November 15th, hosted by Loveland Masters Swim Club
*USMS Sprint Distance Open Water National Championship (1 mile) on September 23rd, Blue Wave Aquatics in Angle Lake, Washington
