The water temperature along the race course in Roberval for the upcoming 2010 World Open Water Swimming Championships ranges from 22-24.4°F (71.6 – 75.9°F) at different points.
It is surprisingly welcomed news to the swimmers who were expecting much cooler lake temperatures.
Traversee internationale du lac St-Jean legends Shelley Taylor-Smith and Philip Rush said, “We never remember the water being this warm when we swam in the 1980s and 1990s. It’s unbelievable.”
A simple heat wave or an example of global warming? Either way, with the world’s best open water swimming in Roberval, the heat is on.
