Ice Mermaid Barbara Hernández Swims 2.5 km at the Bottom of the World

Barbara Milenka Hernández Huerta, known as the Ice Mermaid or Sirena de Hielo, was featured in a documentary film in her native Chile about her 2.5 km swim in Antarctica in 2°C water in 46 minutes 30 seconds. Her Guinness World Record swim was the longest swim in the Southern Ocean and part of her campaign to establish a marine protected areas for the Antarctic Peninsula, which Chile developed in partnership with Argentina in 2018.
